Laurel Gibson is originally from Phoenix, Arizona; she attended Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, and graduated with highest honors. Laurel moved to San Antonio to study under Steve Reynolds at The University of Texas at San Antonio. She received her Masters of Fine Arts degree in 2005. Since then her work has received numerous awards and was most recently spotlighted in Somerset Studio magazine.

Themes of conflict between the East and the West are constant themes in her work. Laurel draws from religions and symbols, from early mankind to modern day. Her work projects the similarities of the present day to our past, and the way all life is connected. She would like people to enjoy her art, the different media, the shapes, colors, and techniques. If the subject matter causes them to reflect on the transience of life and to appreciate the world around them that would be great.
